McLamb Message September 23 - Pray for NTA

September 23, 2020A new command I give you:Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.By this everyone will know that you are my disciples,if you love one another.John 13:34-35Precious Parents,I want to begin this letter thanking all of you for the support given to NTA during these very trying times. Although the budget is very tight this year due to keeping the numbers low in the classroom so that social distancing can take place, we are seeing the Hand of God meet our needs. In every area on the campus of Northwood Temple Academy, we are witnessing the Lord move in mighty ways. Just yesterday during the middle school reboot groups, several students gave their hearts to the Lord for the very first time and many others rededicated their lives to following Him. You do realize that could not have happened if we were not having school. I marvel at the goodness of God! There have been times we have struggled to have parent volunteers on campus, but this year so many of you have volunteered to help take temperatures every day and several of you are helping to sub in classrooms when teachers are sick. Teachers are required to stay home if they exhibit any of the COVID-19 symptoms, so this has increased the need for more substitutes than were needed in the past. Some of our faculty and staff have faced great trials this year. If you have a high school student, you know that Mr. Williams (high school math) lost his son last week at the age of 38. Mrs. Morgan, our cafeteria director, has been diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer and started her chemotherapy treatments last week. Ms. Edwards (6th grade) experienced a loss of eyesight and had to be taken back to Kentucky for emergency treatment, therefore having to resign her position. There have been several other physical attacks on our faculty and staff but this is enough to demonstrate that these are hard times indeed. As I walk down the hallways in each building and hear excellent teaching and learning happening, as I hear the laughter of students filling the classrooms although wearing masks and sitting behind acrylic shields, and I as stand at the door of the gym and watch the girls play volleyball and stand on the hill and watch the boys play soccer…….God whispers to my heart….This is good….very good! Will you commit to pray daily for Northwood Temple Academy? Will you commit to pray for the health of our faculty, staff, and students? Will you commit to pray that God will do amazing things (Joshua 3:5) on the campus of Northwood Temple Academy? God always hears the prayers of His people!Carpe Aeternitatum!R. McLamb

A new command I give you:

Love one another.

As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

By this everyone will know that you are my disciples,

if you love one another.

Precious Parents,

Elementary Classroom Shields

Due to many parents voicing concerns over the plan to use cardboard shields for desks, 200 acrylic shields have been ordered. The shields cost NTA approximately $10,000.00. If anyone would like to make a donation toward the cost of the shields it would be appreciated.

Waiver

All parents must sign and have a waiver notarized before students return to school. We have heard that there has been some concern about notarizing the waiver since there was a line for the student signature, and most students cannot waive their rights as minor children. The student signature line is only for those students 18 years of age and older. The updated waiver is attached.

20-21 COVID School Reopening Plan

Dear Parents,

Attached you will find Northwood Temple Academy School Re-opening Plan. Please take note that this is a draft—-and changes could be made before school begins. We have carefully studied the legal advice from our accrediting agencies and from the CDC. Read over it carefully. Next week you will receive a survey concerning the plan—we will take your feedback and make changes if we can. The survey will also give you an opportunity to give your opinion on whether NTA should open with students in the seats. It is my desire to begin school with students in the seat. We have spent over $6000.00 getting the school ready with all of the safety equipment and measures that we possibly can to make NTA safe for your student to return. Our children need to be in school! Please continue to pray for our precious school. The enemy would love to shut down Christian Education in a time where our culture so desperately needs to know about the Hope we have in Jesus! Carpe Aeternitatum!

Head of School - Northwood Temple Academy

Important letter from Mrs. McLamb, NTA Head of School

June 11, 2020

So God created man in His own image,

in the image of God He created him,

male and female He created them.

Genesis 1:27

Precious Parents,

Although it has only been eight days since school has officially ended for students, faculty, and staff, it seems as though it has been months. The past weeks have been filled with life-changing, life-altering events. First, COVID19 totally changed the way we did school almost overnight! Then the tragic event of George Floyd losing his life at the hands of someone trusted to protect life. Again, both events are life-changing and life-altering events not just for our country, but also for our community and our school. Many of you have sent me emails asking why I have not released plans for how the school will meet the CDC requirements for COVID19 and what school will look like in 2020-2021. I want you to know we are working on it! As soon as we have something concrete, we will send it out.

Over the past couple of days, I have received emails and messages asking why I have not issued a statement of solidarity or spoken on the events that have touched the hearts of our NTA families in the past few weeks. It is definitely not because I have not been thinking about it. My first gut reaction was that I had to be prepared to help our students deal with the horrible events that have taken place in our country. And so I have been busy compiling ideas to bring unity and understanding. I apologize if my silence appeared to be my stance, for that truly was not my intention. I wanted to be able to say the right things—I wanted to make sure that I did not speak out of ignorance but out of understanding. I wanted to make sure that everything I said was based on the very Word of God. I had made plans to release a video during the week of the 18th to address the issues at hand. However, I now understand that my delay has been hurtful to some, and for that I am deeply sorry. Dr. Taylor, the president of ACSI, made the following statement in a webinar on racial reconciliation, and it expresses the way I feel and have felt over the past few weeks. He said, “I’m not smart enough or wise enough to have all of the answers, but I do know pain and hurt when I see it.”

The motivating factor for every believer in Christ to speak out at this time in history is very simple. It comes from 2 Corinthians 5:13, “the love of God compels us.” Again, I don’t confess to know everything or understand everything that African-Americans are feeling at this time, but I want to understand because “the love of God compels me.” No believer should have a difficult time saying, Black lives matter, because Black lives matter to God. I know “all lives matter” to God, but love demands that we have compassion, empathy and love for those brothers and sisters who are hurting right now. So when people—who were created in the image of God—are hurting, it must be the love of God that compels us to help bring healing. Every generation since Adam has needed racial reconciliation. Jesus came to earth and lived in a time of great ethnic division, yet His message was very clear.

God so loved the WORLD that He gave His only son…John 3:16

I look forward to sharing more through video next week and will be putting together NTA Round Table Discussions. We, as a Christian school, will work to bring hope, healing and understanding.

In Jesus,

R McLamb
