Changes at NTA due to COVID-19

March 13, 2020

Precious Parents,

We are continuing to monitor all of the news concerning COVID-19 and particularly news as it deals with school. Yesterday the NC Department of Health and Human Services made the following recommendation, “We recommend that schools and child-care centers cancel or reduce large events and gatherings such as assemblies and field-trips and limit inter-school interactions.”

For this reason, NTA will be limiting outside guests on our campus. Parents and grandparents will not be allowed to visit classrooms or attend chapel or award programs for the time being. All field trips and extracurricular afterschool programs such as Art Club, Bricks 4 Kidz and Razzle Dazzle are canceled. The NCISAA has suspended all spring athletic games, scrimmages and/or contests indefinitely.

At this time, before and after school care will continue as usual.

We anticipate that we will hear further news as to potential future school closure. NTA will follow Cumberland County policy on school closure. Teachers are working to prepare lessons and materials for when or if school closure becomes necessary. If schools must close, RenWeb will be open for every family. Communication from teachers will take place through RenWeb and Google Classroom.

Thank you for your patience and prayer as we navigate through this uncharted territory. Please check email, Northwood Facebook page, as well as  www.ntaeagles.org for any future updates and announcements.

In Jesus,

R Mclamb

Special message from Mrs. McLamb regarding ACSI events and the Coronavirus

March 12, 2020

Precious Parents,

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High

will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

This I declare about the Lord:

He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;

he is my God, and I trust him.

For he will rescue you from every trap

and protect you from deadly disease.

He will cover you with his feathers.

He will shelter you with his wings.

His faithful promises are your armor and protection

Psalm 91:1-4

NTA has been monitoring all of the local, state and federal news concerning the COVID-19 virus. As I stated last week in the Facebook video, I have met with our janitorial staff to ensure that our facilities are cleaned and disinfected daily. NTA is taking all of the necessary precautions to keep our campus safe.  Many of you have emailed or called with concerns about our students traveling to participate in the ACSI competitions.  After much prayer and pondering, the decision was made to cancel any trips out of the city. Shortly after the decision was made by NTA, ACSI issued a statement that all of the competitions scheduled to take place in Raleigh and the Rocky Mount region were being canceled. These include the band competition, spelling bee and art festival. At this time, all of the students participating in the ACSI Math Olympics tomorrow at Village Christian will continue as planned. Early release for grades 9-12 at 12:05 p.m. will remain in place for tomorrow. Athletic events and travel will continue subject to guidance from our state association NCISAA.

I also want to address NTA preparedness in case of a coronavirus outbreak and the possibility of school closure. We are prepared to continue our academic program without disruption utilizing our online resources such as google classroom, aleks math, RenWeb and Ignitia. High school students will continue to progress toward graduation. Student services will remain in operation, sending transcripts and other grade reporting that is necessary for the senior class. The business office will remain in operation using RenWeb and FACTS on-line resources. Re-enrollment and enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year will continue full-steam ahead!

As a school we are praying Psalm 91 over our faculty, staff and school families. Will you do the same? It’s a good time to tell our children about resting in the shadow of the Almighty!

Please check our NTA Facebook and website www.ntaeagles.com for the latest updates and news.

Thank you,

R. McLamb

IMPORTANT: March 13 ACSI Festival details

March 10, 2020

Good afternoon Precious Parents,

Many of you have called or emailed with your concerns about the coronavirus and the school’s plans to participate in all of the ACSI competitions this Friday. As I shared in the Facebook video, NTA has taken precautions to keep our students, faculty and families safe. I contacted ACSI last week about our seniors traveling to Florida and the consensus was that the trip should go on as planned. The senior sponsors took extra precautions by ordering hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes to be delivered to the hotel they were staying. Our state athletic association also issued a statement that said, “based upon our knowledge of the situation at this time, we are proceeding as scheduled for the spring season.”

This Friday, band students will travel to Raleigh to compete in the ACSI Band Festival. They have been preparing for this festival since the beginning of the year. The adult sponsors will take extra hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes to be used in the food court where they will eat lunch. Elementary and middle school students that are traveling to Rocky Mount for the spelling bee and art festival will take the same precautions.

I just finished listening to Governor Cooper’s live statement about the coronavirus and the people of NC. He stated very clearly that the people at risk were people over 65, anyone with recurring health issues or heart condition, and those with a weakened immune system. They advised that people that met those conditions should stay out of large crowds and large public events. The statement also stated that schools are not being advised to close unless a public health inspection is required.

If you wish to transport your student to any of the events above and pack their lunch that would be fine. Please let the teacher know that your child will not be riding the bus by Thursday. We have chartered buses for the band festival so it is imperative that we have a correct number of students riding the bus. If you choose to keep your student home from the competitions, again it is imperative that the teacher know in advance. This is especially important if your student is in band, where their absence impacts the entire band competition.

Thank you,

R. McLamb
